Karianne Fiorini, Claudio Giapponesi e Caterina Sacchi from the HOMEMOVIES archive made the first film restoration after the volunteer film inspections in order to prevent the film itself from projection damages. A short presentation on film preservation and home movie cinema introduced the evening screening that counted over forty people in the audience. The owner of the screened films attended the screening commenting upon just like in a family reunion laughing and getting surprised.
For the opening screening we decided to celebrate an anniversary. In fact the 8mm wedding movie carried by the couple’s daughter was shooted exactly 47 years ago, the 16th of October 1963 in Bari. The 8mm kodachrome film finely return the brilliant colour of the time. The reel can be regardered like a historical document of the period costume.
The second reel, Super 8 from the 1975, is an handball match played in a country square. This movie is the first attestation of handball match in the South of Italy and shows the owner playing handball.

Then, from the considerable home movie Lops’ lot (34 reels), a pair of small Super 8 rells were screened. The first one about a family outing in a sunny day. The main carachter of the movie is the woman who bring the reels as a child. The second one is about a banquet for Mr. and Mrs. Lops wedding. Once again we can find how celebrations and social circumstances can give back costume facts.

We came back to the 8mm reels with Spadafina’s lot (11 reels). These reels had never been projected after the days they were shooted. The choosen reel showed a family ski holiday, while the movie screening the cine-amateur daughter comment upon remembering the holiday that she almost forgot.
A Super 8 reel, from a miscellaneous lot, dating back to the 1971, was shooted from the eighteen at the time owner who made his first technical attempts whit a Super 8 camera. He filmed his family and himself while acting funny.
The last movie was a Super 8 late 70s’ reel shooted by an amateur filmaker who made a 3 minutes shortmovie by a strange superhero. The story is about a girl who find her friend, lover maybe, laying on the road. CUT – that boy go to the girl’s house and they’re surprised by the superhero who threated them.
The chance to watch once again their reels with unfamiliar people permit to remind without gloom or nostalgia the past. Let stranger watch their personal rememberings is like give them the chance to live again.
